FAQs

Yes, I reserve a limited number of sliding scale spots in my schedule. If you do not think you can afford my full fee, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
If I’m unable to offer you a sliding scale spot, I’d be happy to offer referrals to trusted clinicians in the area.
If you’re hoping to find an in-network provider, www.psychologytoday.com is a great resource.

Yes! I am currently a private-pay, out-of-network provider. While I don't accept insurance directly, your insurance plan may have out-of-network benefits, which means that they will reimburse you for a portion of our session cost (often between 60-80% of session fees). I have partnered with Thrizer to handle the out-of-network process automatically for you. During our intake process, I can help you verify if you have out-of-network benefits.

I have chosen not to work with insurance companies at this time so that I can focus on providing confidential services for you, meeting your needs without forced treatment plans/goals from the insurance companies.
In order to be paid through insurance, I am required to submit a mental health diagnosis to attest that you have a ‘disorder.’ And while at times identifying certain diagnoses may be beneficial to treatment planning, I do not believe that all clients are disordered and do not want to attach such to your health record.
Insurance companies often provide a narrow list of approved clinicians, effectively taking away your ability to choose whom to trust with your counseling needs. The therapeutic relationship is the #1 predictor of positive counseling outcomes and therefore your ability to choose your provider is a vital piece to ensuring that you reach your goals.
NOTE: Superbills can be provided at your request. These forms are completed by us and submitted by you to your insurance company for possible reimbursement of counseling services. Please check with your insurance company prior to beginning counseling to ensure coverage and to learn what reimbursement, if any, will be provided to you by insurance.

When you’re ready to schedule an appointment, click the “Schedule a Session” button to book either an intake session, or a free consultation through the online portal.
NOTE: All new clients are required to complete intake paperwork at least 24 hours in advance of the first session. If you don’t recieve portal access to intake forms upon scheduling, please check your spam folder. Sessions without completed paperwork at least 24 hours in advance will be cancelled.

Our first session together is called an intake session. These sessions are approximately 50 minutes long and cover the initial paperwork including informed consent, privacy, practice policies, and a verbal history of your goals, diagnoses, past treatment, family history, etc. This session gives me some important background information about who you are. We will also begin identifying and setting goals so the therapeutic process can begin.
-
Of course the answer to this is: It depends. Mostly it depends on you and your goals for our time together. I suggest committing to therapy 4 sessions at a time. After every 4 sessions, check in with yourself and ask "Is this helping? Do I feel like I'm making progress?" If you answer yes, great! We can continue working together. If it's not meeting your needs, I hope we can talk about that and identify a better plan for moving forward.
Frequency
Often I prefer to meet more often when we get started (weekly or bi-weekly), which allows us to get to know each other and start moving on your goals. Frequency may lessen as we progress.
Length of Care
It is not possible to know in advance how many sessions a person may need. I prefer to be very open with clients about our timeline and work together. Ultimately it’s your choice to be here! However most of my clients experience significant progress towards goals after 3 months of consistent therapy.
